Have you ever wondered what it’s like to juggle high school, being an author, and environmental activism all in one day? Let me take you through my world, where each day is packed with stories, fun, and a dash of activism!
6:00 AM- Cue Hamilton blasting from my phone: “Rise up!” Perfect wake-up anthem, right? I hit the ground running (literally) with a morning walk and have some quiet reading time. It’s the best way to clear my head before the whirlwind of a day kicks in. In my journal, I also like to brainstorm new ideas for my next blog, initiative, and even my next book. Then, I get ready for the day and grab some breakfast before I head out the door.
7:45 AM- Time for my first stop: a Women Empowering Women Club meeting. Today we discuss period poverty, and how we are going to help by donating reusable pads to young women.
8:15 AM-The school day starts! My first class of the day is AP Environmental Science! Learning about climate change, biodiversity, and the planet’s future gives me so many ideas for my activism.
After my other morning classes, I have study hall. In study hall, I study for upcoming exams, catch up on emails, chat with friends, and more! Being a high schooler and an activist isn’t always easy, but I love the challenge. It keeps me on my toes!”
1:00 PM- Lunch Time! I quickly heat up my food in the cafeteria before heading to a Climate Crew Meeting. As President, I lead the meetings, where we whip out cool ideas like giving out mini planting kits to the elementary students so that they can start their own gardens! We even plan fundraisers and brainstorm ways to make our school a green machine!
1:45 PM- Afternoon classes start! In Chemistry, we’re learning about chemical reactions, so today we did the Golden Rain experiment. Who knew chemistry could be so cool! Between Algebra and revising essays in English, my brain is buzzing, but it’s all part of the adventure.
3:15 PM- School’s out, but the work continues! I head to a Student Council Meeting to plan the next school-wide recycling campaign, and then I go to our school garden with a few Climate Crew members to plant new fruits— lemons, avocados, and apples. The food we grow goes straight to the cafeteria for school lunches, making our garden-to-table initiative come full circle.
5:00 PM- Home sweet home! When I get home, I head to my creative haven—my room. I jot down more writing and illustrating ideas about my next children’s book. I love imagining the characters, like Paisley the Polar Bear, and thinking about how they’ll help kids understand climate change. And then there’s illustrating—don’t even get me started on how many times I’ve erased and redrawn the same tree! But it’s all worth it when I step back and see the world I’ve created come to life on the page.
7:00 PM- After finishing my homework and practicing the piano, I sit down to have dinner with my family. This time is the calm in my otherwise busy day. We talk about everything from global news to how our garden is growing. Afterwards, I like to take some time to reflect on the day—what we accomplished at school, the progress on my book, and the next steps for Climate Crew. It might sound weird, but I thrive on being busy. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
10:00 PM- Light’s out! After dinner, I like to read and tackle any other work I may have before going to bed!
By the end of the day, my head is spinning with ideas, projects, and ways to make a bigger impact. Tomorrow’s another adventure, and I can’t wait to see what it brings. Whether it’s a small change in my community or writing a chapter of my book, every day is a new chance to make a difference—and I’m here for it!
